PONY Baseball has Sanctioned Tournaments that run all the way to a World Series starting with Mustang-10's on through the Palomino level.

West Seattle Pee Wee and Southwest Seattle PONY Baseball are in District 1 of the Northwest PONY Region, West Zone. You can find more information on Northwest PONY Baseball on their website.

PONY Baseball Age Divisions

PONY Baseball divides players into Divisions based on the League Age of the players. A player's League Age is determined by their age on April 30th of the season calendar year; this is the same age determination system used by Little League and all other youth baseball organizations.

The PONY Scaled Field

As you can see above, PONY Baseball believes that the field size and pitching distance should suit the physical capabilities of the players. The PONY Rules are also adjusted at each Division level to tranistion the player towards playing by Official Baseball Rules by the time they are at the Pony level. This incremental system provides stepping-points for the players to incrementally learn new skills and refine their playing ability.

This is in stark contrast to Little League which uses the same field size for all Divisions through Majors, and then jumps to a full-size field (90' bases, 60' pitching distance) when the players enter Little League Juniors at age 13.

The PONY Baseball Divisions:

T-Ball; introduction to the basics of the game. No scores are kept and all players participate every inning.
At the Pinto level, players are exposed to hitting live pitching - West Seattle Pee Wee uses a combination of player and coach-pitch - along with advancing their defensive skills.
Mustang advances the player to all player-pitch games. This, in combination with developing pitching and defensive skills, prepares the player to advance to the Bronco level.
Bronco introduces the aspects of leading off from bases, pitchers holding runners on bases, balks, and dropped third strikes.
Pony presents the players with increased exposure to the finer points of the game. PONY divides this Division into Olympic (select) and Cascade (league play) levels, with teams typically playing other Pony teams from PONY leagues in the area.
The Colt level brings the player to the true game - full regulation-size basepaths and pitching distances following the Official Baseball Rules.
Palomino is the highest level of play in the PONY system, for players of League Ages 17-19. Palomino is true amateur, pre-college competitive baseball with most players coming from high school and select teams.
